Over the years I've done my fair share of self hosting. I've run local file servers, websites and a Nextcloud server. But the older I get (and the less time that I have) the more I want someone else to deal with my problems.
For that reason, I'd rather pay someone else who knows what they're doing to handle my data. There are two reasons for that:
Consequently, these days I pay 79p a month to Apple to keep all of the things that I need to store in iCloud. I've found that it's faster than my own self hosting solutions, cheaper, more reliable and obviously easier to maintain. Though at some point I would like to move to a Nextcloud instance because Apple is kind of yucky.
